MOTD: DRAFT SITE - WORK IN PROGRESS - COMING SOON!
Our BETA period will consist of a Chronicle prelude, "Welcome to the White City", allowing everyone with us at soft opening to familiarize themselves with our setting and with our initial cast of Storyteller played characters (SPCs).
Once our BETA period completes, we will then move to a schedule of Storytelling one unified game-wide Chronicle per quarter, with each Chronicle having lasting repercussions on our persistent gameworld that will carry over from Chronicle to Chronicle. Each quarterly Chronicle will consist of a minimum of 2 Stories per month.
In past Vampire: the Masquerade MU*s, the world ended at the city limits, and the overarching story of the Jyhad had little to no bearing on the game being played. At this game, we are striving to create a different feel. Indeed, being part of the Metaplot is baked into the very rules of Vampire: the Masquerade 5th Edition. When you choose your character's Loresheet, you are effectively selecting the facet of the metaplot they are involved with most intimately. This may be the schemes of a particular elder who your character descends from or is beholden to, a blood cult, a bloodline, a noteworthy event with echoing consequences in the Jyhad, a location of import, or more.
What about Lore? In prior games, "Lore" was used to compartmentalize knowledge and separate players from the meta. On one hand, this reduced the burden on STs. On the other, this isolated players from the game they were supposed to be playing. So there's no "lore" skill... just what you know and what you think you know. Human knowledge and memory is imperfect to begin with - in a society where memories can literally be rewritten and it's not even difficult to do it facts have... limited utility. So yeah. You know some names, have heard the stories. The World of Darkness goes on all around you and like humans, vampires talk. But your whole night so far could be a Dominate-implanted lie, so take history with a grain of salt.
That said, there are some things intrinsic to the Chicago setting nobody knows:
While it is well-known that the Methuselah Helena was active in Chicago in the past (her epic smackdown with the Brujah Methuselah Menele on the shore of Lake Michigan is the stuff of Kindred legend), it's believed that she's gone - drawn off by the Beckoning like her arch-rival was, or otherwise destroyed. Those who've learned that she's still active in the city as Portia have either been subverted by Helena, she's erased their knowledge of her presence - or she's killed them because she decided they were a real threat to her. Don't worry overmuch - while she's an integral part of Chicago vampire genre, staff is being really careful about how they implement Helena, and is being careful not to overuse her - and she can be a powerful ally, for the right people. Just remember, before you beat up the bushes looking for the ultimate diablerie prize, she's one of the most terrifying Methuselahs in the setting, as smart and careful as she is powerful. And she can read your thoughts.
Plots will be tagged as being relevant to specific loresheets and/or loresheet keywords/phrases. This does not require you to participate in those plots or bar you from participation in them, but it does create events that tie into your character via their Loresheet which encourage you to be involved, and may offer potential rewards such as justification to purchase another advantage off your Loresheet, among other opportunities.
In addition, while the heart of this game is in Chicago and most of the game will be set there, the New Second City influences domains for hundreds of miles in every direction. Plots may take you down the lupine-infested back roads to Milwaukee, or to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, or even further afield.
